Driver Improvement Classes (aka: Defensive Driving, Traffic School)
We offer both 4 and 8 hour Driver Improvement Classes that satisfy Department of Safety and/or Court Ordered Requirements.
We keep it affordable at ONLY $35 fee for either class. Preregistration is required.
Any time that you should receive a traffic ticket… DO NOT immediately just go and pay that ticket and/or the fine. If you do that, the Court will immediately forward the violation to the Department of Safety and it may be on your Motor Vehicle Record for 3 years. These tickets can increase your insurance premiums significantly from that time forward, every time you pay that premium. This could add up o several hundred or thousands of dollars over time. Once on your DMVR, there is NO removing it. Inquire first, (don’t wait, do this ASAP) if the Judge in the jurisdiction where you got the ticket will allow you to attend Driver Improvement Class to keep your record clear. You may have to actually show up to the court date to find out. Not going to court will not save court costs. The fine that is quoted typically includes those court costs. If allowed, you will probably still have to pay your fine, but when you attend the class, you will receive a Certificate which when sent to the Court, will stop the Traffic Ticket right there at the courthouse. Each Judge determines the hours required, so you will need to find out if the Judge requires a 4 hour or an 8 hour class. You must know that before you sign-up for the class.
If you:
- Have received a traffic violation (wreck, speeding, u-turn, any moving violation) and have been told by the Officer, Judge, or Court Clerk that a defensive driving class will reduce your fines. Remember each jurisdiction is separate and handle tickets differently. They don’t share information. The best way to determine what a certain jurisdiction will require is to contact them directly.
- Have received a letter from the Department of Safety that you are required to take an 8 Hour Driver Improvement Class.
- Have had a hearing with the Court and were ordered to take a Driver Improvement/Defensive Driving Class. Remember each jurisdiction is separate and handle tickets differently. They don’t share information. The best way to determine what a certain jurisdiction will require is to contact them directly.
- Are age 50 or older and your Insurance Carrier will give you a discount for taking a Driver Improvement Class.
- If your employer is requiring you to attend a class for any reason.
Drive-Rite Driving School offers the class you need.
Drive-Rite Instructors are certified by and use the AAA Driver Improvement Program and materials.
Drive-Rite Driving School is Certified by the Tennessee Department of Safety.
We offer both 4 and 8 hour classes, either for the low cost of $35 .
Classes are held typically 3 times per month. Preregistration is required because seating is limited. Since we are among the lowest in the state we fill up fast. In desperation, students can show up 15-30 minutes prior to class start time and may be allowed to join if there is room.
Due to limited seating and to limit distractions, please do not bring friends, significant others or children as they will not be allowed to accompany you in the class nor is there a waiting area provided for them.
All classes scheduled are dependent on at least 10 students enrolling. Any class could be cancelled if there are not at least 10 students signed up 24 hrs. in advance. Students who have enrolled will be rescheduled to the next available class if that should be necessary.
** You will need to give us 24 hours notice, during our regular office hours, in order to cancel or reschedule. No refunds will be made if we do not have this notice, and reschedule fees will apply without this notice.
